Umpires
MQ: A gathering of baseball fans asking questions and answering.

That little play in which the umpire either calls a Strike a ball, a ball a strike or a close play.

MQ: To me it’s like friends.

The 2-out RBI…when your down by a run or 2 and you’ve got a guy in scoring position with 2 outs and your begging for your guy to knock him in and then the guy comes up big in the clutch and drives him in…that can really change momentum because the other team thought they were out of the jam

Mini Q: a bunch of people talking passionately about the things they love

A double that clears the bases (there were bases loaded with two outs).
MQ: my friends that I may never meet.

The inning-ending GIDP with runners on second and third and the lead within reach.

Utter Chaos May 3, 2011 at 10:06 pm

I’d say triple play with the bases loaded. The other team has a golden chance to score and with one swing of the bat the inning is over.

miniQ: friends. Being able to share info with other like minded baseball enthusiasts. An occasional friendly debate or disagreement is always good as well.

A momentum changer to me is that bull pen guy (maybe the closer) that comes in with a different look and throwing gas! The game is on the bases and he just shuts em down and takes the air right out of the whole stadium as fans start to leave in drones. What once seemed so close now seems almost impossible…. now that is a momentum changer.

mini Q I would say it is a place to learn and to share baseball knowledge and opinions.

To me its when a team is winning and a error here or a walk there that seems harmless at the time. Usually these things have some kind of ripple effect that comes back to haunt the team that was cruising and they end up losing by a run or two.

Your pitching staff getting out of a bases loaded jam late in a tight game with no outs.

If you are on the road it takes all of the wind out of the home team.
If you are at home it’s a huge rush for the players and crowd.

mini q: none of the above…but prob. the most logical sports section

I’ll say a throwing error to 1st base on a routine grounder

A great scoring chance wiped out by a fantastic play or tough luck (ex: bases-clearing double foul by 6 inches).

for a pitcher a strike out with men on base or a double play

on offense a lead off double

Usually a great defensive play by the team trailing keeping the other team from a big inning. Many times the player making the great play ends up leading off the next inning and does something big for his team.

A triple play with the bases loaded. The batter is one swing away from adding 4 runs, everyone is thinking they’d be lucky to get out of this inning only giving up a run or 2, and them BAM! in 5 seconds, the inning is over and the team is re-energized. It doesn’t happen often, but I can’t think of a bigger momentum changer in baseball!
