Product Description
The Glove Radar is a small Doppler radar weighing only 3 ounces, packaged in a rugged, attractive plastic case. It is attached to any ball glove with a multi-strand nylon paracord that offers over 300 pounds of tensile strength. The glove-mounted radar has been proven to withstand poundings of baseballs at speeds in excess of 100 mph. It measures ball speed from 12 mph to over 100 mph typically within 1 mph of more expensive radar guns measuring ball speed in the same relative location . It is a very low power radar, transmitting much less power than typical cell phones and portable phones. It is powered by a small N/3 size , 3 volt lithium camera battery. The product is covered by a 6-month limited warranty. The Glove Radar is certified for sale and use in the U.S., Canada, Common Market Europe, and Australia. It is made in the USA.Amazon.com Product Description
A small Doppler radar velocity sensor which attaches to a baseball or softball glove, the Sports Sensors Glove Radar measures the speed of a ball just before it is caught. By learning the proper way to condition, train, warm-up, and throw, players can achieve their best accuracy and velocity performance, while reducing the risks of injury to their arm and body. It can aid any player--infielders and outfielders, as well as pitchers and catchers--throwing from any distance.
The Glove Radar attaches easily to the back of any glove. |
Packaged in a rugged plastic housing assembly and sealed to protect the internal electronics from dust, dirt and moisture, the Glove Radar is worn by the receiver of the ball, or by multiple tossing partners in non-game situations. It then responds to the approaching ball just before it reaches the glove. Thus, unlike most radar speed guns, a long range capability is not required.
Two screws hold the cover in place, which can be removed to replace the internal battery. A strong, weather-resistant nylon cord, facilitates attachment to virtually any ball glove. A rubber pad, molded onto the housing surface adjacent to the glove, absorbs impact shock forces from the ball being caught.
The internal electronics are in "sleep" mode until activated by depressing the push-button On switch. Upon receipt of a velocity signal produced by a ball about to be caught in the glove, the ball speed is calculated and shown on the display in miles-per-hour. The Glove Radar goes into the sleep mode after an inactivity period of about a minute. It's backed by a 6-month limited warranty. Made in USA.

I have been coaching youth baseball for nearly 10 years and I really like this product for training and gauging players’ improvement. The Glove Radar is easy to use, affordable, and gives consistent and accurate speed readings. You have to understand that it measures the speed just before the ball enters the mitt, which is different than radar guns (the guns measure the ball speed close to the pitcher’s/thrower’s release point). Since a thrown ball’s speed decreases about 1 mph for every 7 feet traveled the reading on a Glove Radar is always a lower number than the reading on a radar gun. Remember that and you’ll love this thing.
We purchased 2 of these units back in 2000, while making a run at the Little League World Series. We originally bought them to evaluate pitchers, however they were soon utilized by by all the players to evaluate and enhance their throwing positions. Although I have had to replace the batteries,(which Sport Sensors shipped for free), they still are in use today for the Cocoa Beach High School Varsity Team. As far as accuracy, we measured the units against Jugs Guns and they were on the money. Just remember this unit determines speed about 20″ before glove impact, not from the throwers hand. I would highly recommend
We have used our glove radar for several years. My husband coaches t-ball and I have helped in little league. When you coach players how to throw properly and give them immediate feedback on the speed of the ball, they listen and follow coaching instructions. The players are motivated to do as you have instructed, because they have a way to measure how well they throw the ball. The improvement we have seen in our players is the most incredible pace I have ever experienced. Other parents & coaches have witnessed our results and have also purchased the Glove Radar to work with players on their own. My oldest son has developed such awesome technique over the past years, he is now a lead pitcher in his league. In t-ball, our players make accurate throws to first base even from third and short-stop to make the out at first almost every time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Have you ever used a jugs gun? If so then you have to get a glove radar! This little product is a powerhouse radar that attaches to the back of a ball glove. It is an affordable training tool that anyone can use. My daughter’s softball team used it for training to improve their throwing technique. The pitcher loved it, but all of the other players would take a turn using it as well. My daughter, who is a catcher, used it to quantify her improvement as she was practicing her throw to second base.
It is important for readers to realize that this is a true radar not one of those products that simply time the throw from a designated distance. We have one of those products which we trashed once we got the glove radar! The glove radar allows the ball to be thrown from any distance and its accuracy rivals that of an expensive jugs gun. It is truly a bargain.
Another awesome training tool also manufactured by Sports Sensors is the Kickspeed radar for soccer. Our coach has one and we just purchased our own. It is great to have a training aid which will actually quantify improvement while training!
I bought it to figure out my daughter’s pitching speed. It seems to work about 60-70 of the time. You have to catch it just right.
