Adam Bender – plays baseball with only one leg

by Roger Clemens on May 16, 2010

Baseball Express
Adam Bender, 8, is one of several kids who play catcher in Southeastern’s rookie league at Veterans Park. What makes Adam stand out is that he plays one of the toughest positions on the field with only one leg. Because of cancer, he had his left leg amputated when he was one. Adam doesn’t use a prosthesis, and only uses crutches when he reaches base for the Astros. by Charles Bertram, Lexington Herald-Leader

This is just amazing! He is one cool kid, I was born with heart defects and I was on my high school’s dance team and I was able to do almost everything all my friends could do. Don’t ever make fun of someone who has a disability.

This should be an inspiration to anybody who plays the game of baseball. i have played all my life and am now playing college ball and have the utmost respect for this little guy. I give this kid mad props for having the love for the game of basball like myself and having the courage to not let his disability keep him from doing something he loves. keep it up little buddy. dont let anyone say you cant because you just proved you could.

This kid is a beast.
He jus manned up and freaking dominated. When he’s older he definately needs to be recognized in some way.

Next time you ever doubt your ability to achieve one of your goals, think of Adam. Next time you feel like quitting anything, think of Adam. Next time your legs are burning and your knees are aching from squatting down in that uncomfortable catching position, think of Adam. Don’t place the blame on anything else, and don’t make excuses. You can hurdle over any obstacle life thrusts in your way – even with one leg.

And geez, being a catcher is hard enough with two legs; imagine it with one.

Miroku6510 May 17, 2010 at 9:34 am

@Blogengezer Amen. It’s people like these that deserve respect. He’s not saying “Ohhhh, I only have one leg I can’t do this this and this.” Instead of not trying at all, I bet he tries even harder because of his disadvantage. I wish everyone in America could see this kid.

kookoo445 May 17, 2010 at 10:26 am

hly crap he can run on one lrg faster than some kids can run on two. he was booking
