perhaps the best player to ever put on a Pirates uniform… perhaps a pro baseball unifrom period… anyway RIP Clemente a true legend not much on the power numbers but he could hit a homer if he wanted kinda like icharo but much much more talented my father watched him many times live and has an autographed photo of him and roberto he passed it on to me and it will never leave the frame i have it in no matter what

all he did and still MLB decided to pass him over when they reveal the all century team in 1999 but they had room on the team for a bunch of steroid users

The first MLB game I ever attended was in 1972 at Three Rivers. Roberto hit 2 home runs against the Cubs. The second was a walk off. I remember watching the 3000th hit on TV like it was yesterday. I also remember the pit in my stomach on New Years day 1973. He was a great baseball player and an even greater man. I hope that his “coming out” party in 1971 gave him peace over that last year of his life. The Pirates could sure use his presence at spring training these days.

Through the years Ive asked people if they knew of Roberto Clemente, not all were baseball fans and the ones that knew of him always had an answer that was immediate, with attencion and emotion. Heart of gold, the best ever, there will never be another like him. The one answer from a Puertorican was the most touching, he just looked at me with no words but his eyes filled with tears.

@Cielamouroux I give you two thumbs up for that comment.

Brilliant underrated player. Read the biography that came out about 2yrs ago…great stuff. The Dodgers had him in the minors if memory serves me.

He was a dead man before he ever stepped on the plane. The last chapter in the book about the events leading up to the crash pissed me off…what a waste.
RIP Roberto.

My first Baseball hero when I was a kid ! I am 51 years young and still shed a tear when I think about that terrible New Year’s Day in 1973… what a man, what a Baseball Player and what an incredible, positive example he set for generations of Fans everywhere who had the privilege of seeing #21 play in person or read about his many accomplishments. R.I.P. Roberto…
